So, you decide it is time to try to conceive (TTC). You are excited and start searching the internet to learn a little bit about how to increase your chances. I am guessing you found a WHOLE LOT of acronyms that make no sense.
Well, here you go … These are a some of the most common acronyms you will find (and probably start using yourself) when TTC or going through infertility treatment.
TTC – trying to conceive
LMP- last menstrual period
CD – cycle day
OPK – ovulation predictor kit
DPO – days post ovulation
2WW – 2week wait
PUPO – pregnant until proven otherwise
bfp -big fat positive (+ pregnancy test)
bfn -big fat negative 😢
AF – aunt flow (period)
HPT/UPT – home/urine pregnancy test
hCG – human chorionic gonadotropin (blood pregnancy test)
FHR – fetal heart rate
IVF – in vitro fertilization
ICSI – intracytoplasmic sperm injection (one sperm put in one egg for fertilization in IVF)
PGT – preimplantation genetic testing (embryo testing for genetics)
OHSS – ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome
IUI – intrauterine insemination
TDI – therapeutic donor insemination
FET – frozen embryo transfer
OI – ovulation induction
ULS – ultrasound
HSG – hystersalpingogram (tube test)
SHG/SIS – sonohysterogram (uterine cavity evaluation)
PCOS – polycystic ovarian syndrome
DOR- diminished ovarian reserve
POI – primary ovarian insufficiency (aka POF – premature ovarian failure)
RPL- recurrent pregnancy loss (aka recurrent miscarriage)
GC- gestational carrier
IP- intended parent
